An Academy Award-winning documentary that delves into the plight of the children of prostitutes in Kolkata’s red light district. Documentary photographer Zana Briski went to India to photograph prostitutes. In order to get the photographs of the prostitutes, Briski offerered to teach photography to her subjects’ children. In doing so, she gave cameras to the children so they could learn and potentially improve their lives. The resulting photographs created by the children were used in the documentary and also exhibited. One boy was even given the opportunity to attend a photography conference in Amsterdam.
